Choosing your IB classes
One of the first major decisions in IB is choosing your Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) courses. The subjects you choose can affect your workload, your enjoyment of the program, and sometimes what you want to do in university. While it may seem stressful, the goal is to choose classes that match your strengths, interests, and even future goals. Also ensuring there is a balance: challenging enough, but not too challenging where it cannot be handled
Questions to Ask Yourself
Before choosing your courses, consider:
What subjects do I enjoy?
IB is much easier when you genuinely like what you're learning. If you enjoy a subject, you'll likely stay motivated and interested when the workload becomes challenging.
What subjects am I strongest in?
Your HL courses should usually include subjects where you perform well and feel confident in
What are my future goals?
Some universities recommend or require certain subjects for example:
-
Engineering often requires HL Maths and Physics
-
Pre Med may require Biology or Chemistry
-
Humanities may value subjects such as History, English, or Global Politics.
